I enjoyed the annual Liberty States Fiction Writers Conference on April 11 and spoke to two editors to pitch my novel. The workshops on Agent Queries, Revision Tools and Using Senses in Writing were worthwhile.
The WFWA Retreat in Alexandria provided many opportunities to meet members. I enjoyed a session held for first time attendees that used small group activities, and afterward a cocktail reception was held for all members. All three morning sessions were excellent, and my afternoons were spent exploring this historical town. The walking tour was a good introduction, and I toured the Carlyle House, Apothecary and the Torpedo Factory Art Center among other sites. There are great restaurants, shops, bookstores, and a free trolley on King Street that you can take to and from the train station.
We all enjoyed a wonderful dinner on Friday night (I won the table centerpiece!) and Saturday morning talks on Book coaches, Query Letters and Marketing Success and finally a very helpful Q&A session were invaluable. I learned a lot and met many friendly writers who were eager to share information. This Women's Fiction group is a good one if you write in this genre and need online resources and enjoy podcasts, virtual book club meetings, many archived articles, and opportunities to have your work critiqued.
WFWA will only meet in person once a year. Next year they will meet on the West Coast.
